Another item that took us 4.5 months to install was the kitchen drawer bin pulls…
My little handyman. :)
Our beautiful satin nickel bin pulls, as well as handles previously installed by the contractors.
I think we’re going to have to get used to not pulling the drawers out by the side. We’ve both caught ourselves doing it the old way several times since the pulls have been put on, haha.
We finished putting up all the blinds in the guest bedroom! So our guest can actually have some privacy…
…well, except for the glass door to the living room…
…which we finally hung back up! Not finished like we hoped – one step at a time, I guess.
And cleaning it up a little for our guests that will soon be here.
The 60-Day Curse?
We heard a sudden noise. It turns out the noise was the range hood vent falling down!! The screws were ripped right out from the cabinet on the left side.
Because we were afraid the right side would not hold much longer we found a temporary solution to prop up the vent hood until the contractors were able to come by the next day.
And then we also noticed the base cap molding coming off by the butler’s pantry. What is this? The 60-day curse?
After a crazy/busy weekend we decided to tackle some more paint scraping and got busy with a butler’s pantry drawer and door today.
Last Friday Patrick was working on removing paint off the kitchen built-in drawer.
…while I was putting primer in the corners that hadn’t been painted.
Today we finally put the first coat of color in the bathroom!! We almost got the entire room done. I have to finish a few more spots by the ceiling. But my husband keeps asking me every 30 seconds if I’m done and we can finish watching “Little Miss Sunshine” so I can only take the questioning for so long! (Otherwise I would have finished it tonight :-P).
Our new guest bed arrived!
Gus and Jim came back to work on a few things…
…building shelves for the medicine cabinet.
…tearing out part of the bath built-in to access the plumber’s screw-up and pulling back the faucets so that they don’t stick out.
…making the bathroom window even (one part was higher than the other due to the Durock).
…building shelves for the kitchen built-in.
Meanwhile, later on that night…
…we were busy priming the kitchen built-in.
What do you do on a Tuesday night? Personally I like to crawl around on the kitchen floor, showing off my plumber’s crack, and getting into those deep kitchen built-in corners with some paint! :)
I’ve fallen behind on posting updates of our progress, but that should be understandable considering our moving chaos and stress! So here’s a long one to catch up on the past 2 weeks…

Our gas meter is here to stay, woohoo.
A nice surprise on moving day was the “Herbie Curbie” (as the city calls them). I had called them numerous times to get it and they refused to bring us one until we were living there (“it may get stolen otherwise”). After somewhat bitching out a lady the previous week I didn’t anticipate it actually being here.
Wednesday, January 31st
Our first morning at the house! Patrick looking very tired – but at least I managed to find the toaster to make us bagels.
Thursday, February 1st
Rain coming through our door into the laundry room.
Water even coming out by the electrical switch – eek.
The floor is still wet from where a lake formed under our kitchen sink. We loooove our plumber!

Friday, February 2nd
The kitchen built-in is coming back together.
In the process of my 7-hour journey of unpacking the kitchen.

Saturday, February 3rd
Cleaning the built-in bookshelf in the living room. Look how dirty it was!
We finally have a calm enough evening where we can celebrate our move into the house.
Sunday, February 4th
Blinds have been hung up in the living room so we have some privacy from the street. (And the table has been moved from the living room into the dining room.)
Monday, February 5th
The contractors were supposed to remove an old eletrical outlet from the dining room bay window. Since they haven’t done it Patrick decided to take matters into his own hands. He also cleaned up the bay window, which was covered in dust and junk.
Our driveway is starting to look more inviting. Of course we already managed to fill up our “Herbie Curbie.”
Our unfinished laundry room has turned into a chaotic storage room.
You know you live in an “under construction” house when the nail hole filler lies next to the facial cream in your bathroom!
Our sink area is looking pretty nice.
Tuesday, February 6th
Nothing to report, but we had a beautiful sunset from our office.
Wednesday, February 7th
We’ve put up the bathroom door so our guest can have some privacy.
The range vent hood is being replaced.
The kitchen cabinet hardware has been put on.
The laundry faucet box has been framed out – somewhat lacking if you ask me.
Thursday, February 8th
We spent half the evening scrubbing and cleaning the living room fireplace.
And the other half partially cleaning the front bedroom windows and putting up the blinds (so our guest can have some privacy while he sleeps here!).
Saturday, February 10th
Volunteers from Trees Atlanta planting trees along our street.
