Comments Off on Finding Our BungalowThis website is devoted to our West End bungalow! Well, actually our bungalow is in Westview, but if we had called the site WestviewBungalow.com nobody would have a clue what we were talking about.
We searched all over Atlanta before coming across the West End/Westview neighborhoods. We started looking at houses in Howell Station, and that is where we realized we couldn’t live without a bungalow. We then looked in Riverside, Renyoldstown, Cabbagetown, East Atlanta, Grant Park, and Ormewood Park. All of these neighborhoods were really exciting. In fact, We almost bought a 1930’s non-bungalow in East Atlanta, but luckily that didn’t happen.
We thought the West End was going to be a long shot. It doesn’t have the best reputation in Atlanta. However once we arrived in the neighborhood we were surprised! Some of the homes dated back as far as the 1800’s, and there were inexpensive bungalows everywhere – you don’t really find this anywhere in Atlanta. We actually toured our first “real” bungalow on Lucile Ave. It was amazing – lots of built-ins, all original wood work, a huge fireplace, original light fixtures, etc, but Steffi thought the house was too dark.
We continued on leaving West End and entering Westview. We were actually on our way to see a house that had already been nicely renovated when Steffi spotted a “For Sale” sign in the front yard of what would later become our home. We had to stop!
